Unity Film Festival is a brand-new, inclusive film festival based in High River, Alberta, designed to celebrate and showcase the unique voices of first-time filmmakers and emerging talents. This festival highlights storytelling through documentary films, focusing on powerful local narratives and perspectives from all backgrounds. The Unity Film Festival fosters creativity, community connection, and collaboration by bringing people together to learn about film, participate in workshops, and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of filmmaking—from directing to editing, sound, and camera work. With support from local partners, the festival also offers seniors and new volunteers a chance to contribute actively as steering committee members, judging panelists, and creative team members.
Our mission is to build a dynamic, diverse, and supportive film culture in High River while inspiring the next generation of storytellers to share authentic stories with our community and beyond!

No prior experience is needed to get involved with Unity Film Festival! We welcome anyone who has a passion for film, community, and storytelling. Whether you’re interested in volunteering on the Steering Committee, joining the Judging Panel, or taking on a creative role as a Director, Editor, Camera Operator, or Sound Technician, we provide all the training and support you need to be successful. Unity is all about inclusivity, creativity, and learning together, so beginners are absolutely encouraged to join and gain hands-on experience through workshops and projects.
Unity Film Festival is a volunteer-driven initiative, and roles on the Steering Committee, Judging Panel, and creative teams are unpaid. Volunteers receive training, support, and hands-on experience in filmmaking and festival planning, building valuable skills and industry connections. While no salaries are provided, we do offer meal allowances, lunch on production days, and essential travel reimbursements to help with basic expenses. This is a chance to bring meaningful stories to life, join a supportive community, and be part of something truly inspiring in High River!
We understand that travel can be challenging. If you have limitations, we're committed to working with you to ensure participation remains possible. For key production days, essential travel expenses may be covered, and some roles might offer flexible or remote options. Additionally, if you're based locally and lack transport, we’ll do our best to arrange carpooling with other team members when possible. Just let us know about any travel needs, and we'll find a way to keep you involved in the festival community!
